Untethered - Katie Hayoz

Whenever Sylvie experiences any strong emotion, her soul leaves her body and her body goes limp. This makes her a target for bullies at school and worries her parents, particularly her mother. Her dad is moving out and getting a divorce which makes Sylvie blame herself. She feels that if things weren't always so stressed because of her involuntary astral projecting, her dad wouldn't have left.

That they'd still be the happy family they once were.

An emptiness eats its way through my insides. If it were just Sam, they’d still be together.

Sylvie's closest friend is Cassie whom she has known for eleven years.I love the parts that focused on their friendship.Cassie is one of my favorite characters. She is sweet and is always there for Sylvie.

Cassie is already lying on her back in the grass.I lie down in the opposite direction, the top of my head almost touching hers. How many times have we done this – met in the middle of the night, in her or my backyard, looked at the stars and talked?

---

She slipped her hand into mine.“I love you,” I whispered.Cassie gave my hand a squeeze.“And I think you’re better than normal.”

Sylvie is in love or so she thinks with Kevin, a popular guy at school, who once stood up to a bully for her.Kevin wants to be with Cassie and vice versa.

It appears that Cassie has everything Sylvie wants-beauty, the gorgeous guy and loving parents.

I love her.I hate her.I feel sorry for her.I envy her.

So Sylvie plots to steal Cassie's life.

So what happens now?Read to find out.Its free for kindle.

Reading this book was so satisfying.Every moment of helplessness, vulnerability, despair, jealousy, love, guilt is fantastically written. The behavior and character development is believable and really good. Its hard to hate any of the characters and easy to sympathize with them. The focus on Nelson isn't much but he is also my favorite.

Also, I really love that the paranormal part of this story is vague.

Perfection (Neighbor from Hell #2) - R.L. Mathewson

Edited post.

I read up to roughly 75% before I gave up.

*Rant with spoilers*

Perfection is the story of Trevor Bradford who is disgusted at himself for being strongly attracted to a plus size woman. Not to annoy you to death or anything, but Trevor is a very handsome, very sexy, very attractive manly man.

He thinks that simply because he looks so good he can do anything he wants. He judges everyone around him.He dislikes that his cousin and his friend changed after falling in love and love their wives.

A list of unacceptable things Trevor does:

*He burns Zoe's t-shirt without her knowledge simply because he doesn't like it.
*He is disgusted by his attraction to her but isn't disgusted by his behavior when he goes through her lingerie before their arrangement.
*He barges in when she is showering before she agrees to his arrangement.

Its okay for him to be nice to her out of pity but not okay if she were simply being polite without being attracted to him.

He knew he mostly viewed her as a tenant and employee, but he hadn't known that she only saw him as a boss and landlord, one apparently that she made small talk with to be polite. That knowledge pissed him off in the worst possible way.

She is should always hold his opinions in the highest esteem. If he implies that she is too unattractive to be seen with him in public, then she must accept it.She shouldn't even buy a dog leash which she likes. His opinions must always be above everything else.

"If I say you're beautiful then you're beautiful so get the hell over it!" he snapped.

After that he tells her to get out and apologize.

"Apologize to you? For what?" she asked, sitting up to kneel beside him.

"For what?" he repeated, stunned. "I call you beautiful and you dare to doubt my word?

Narcissistic fucking son of a bitch!

He is so ashamed that he wants her, so ashamed to be seen with her because she doesn't measure up to his standards.

"She's not good for me.She doesn't even come close to what I'm looking for,"he pointed out.

This after spending months with her.Why should she accept his compliment? How many times has he made feel her beautiful?

I've never been an Edward Cullen fan, but after reading about how Trevor Bradford treats Zoe, I have a new respect for Edward. He might be a creepy, obsessive stalker and his relationship with Bella might be unhealthy, but he never pitied her.Even when she didn't look the way society would consider beautiful he adored her and treated her with gentleness and love and was always being careful not to hurt her.

Back to asshole Trevor.

Did she think he was really a heartless bastard that he'd give her food poisoning and not take care of her?

Okay, any other woman and he would have probably shrugged it off...

I also remember reading a line which said that women annoyed the shit out of Trevor when they cried.

Really, ladies? Can't you see how annoying this is for him?And WTF are you doing being all depressed when you should clearly be running around at his beck and call, looking for ways to please him?

Everything must always be about him and only him.

There would be no "we" about it. He'd end things when she got too clingy, he tired of her, or he found her replacement. He didn't want to chance her falling for him and forcing him to break it off when he wasn't done with her delectable little body.

****

Plus if he was going to be honest with himself he'd have to admit that he was sick of all the work that it required to keep his hands off of her in public.Every time he wanted to touch her, hold her hand, or kiss her he had to remind himself that it wasn't like that between them and hold back.Denying himself what he wanted wasn't fun and he was done doing it.

He doesn't want to go public with their relationship because he can finally see Zoe for the sweet girl who is attractive in her own way.

No.

He wants to go public because he can't stand not doing something he wants to do.

When she doesn't die of joy after he bossily tells her that she should move in with him, this is his reaction:

All the women in his past would have jumped for joy if he'd ever offered them the honor he was bestowing upon her and it was an honor, damn it!

I'm so fucking glad I'm single.

"I gave her a fucking place to live, a part-time job, I helped her find a job and I took care of her and she didn't do a goddamn thing for me," he said, getting more riled up as he paced the room. "Not one fucking thing!" he yelled, half hoping she'd hear him and come running back down the stairs so he could yell at her and make her see that she'd made a mistake.

In response to everything he did for her:
*She pays the rent. Its not like she is living there for free.
*Yes, its true that he recommended her to his uncle. But if he hadn't she would have found another job because she is an educated, independent, hard working woman.
*He hired her to do everything for him which she did!

She was his and she damn well knew it and she would remain his until he decided that he was done with her.

I don't think Zoe should be in this relationship. She shouldn't think so little of herself to put up with this kind of humiliating behavior.

I don't find his behavior to be soul crushingly romantic.I can't even tell you how many times I pressed my lips together out of irritation while reading this "love story".

I'm going to get something to eat.

Artificial Love (Artificial Love Stories #1) - Erica Conroy

*spoilers*

Sex with a robot specifically designed to satisfy women should be orgasmic, right?

Its not.

There is, like, 2 seconds of nothing much happening foreplay after which Sally clings to AL like a monkey clinging to a tree and then

**BAMMMM!!!**

**BAMMMM!!!**

**BAMMMM!!!**

**BAMMMM!!!**

**BAMMMM!!!**

Uh...

Moving on.The thing about unrequited love stories is that they make you feel hopeless love, despair and longing which the character feels. This story fails in that too.

Twilight - Meg Cabot

How reading a good love story should feel. ;)

Some Advice From IT Professionals on How to Handle the Latest Goodreads Shenanigans

Reblogged from Kaia:

As I mentioned in an earlier post, my husband is a programmer. He works for an international company with a high bar for its IT staff.

I ran GR's latest nonsense--their claim that Booklikes is causing Goodreads content to be deleted--past him, and the verdict is that this is actually probably GR's fault. More than likely is has to do with flaws in their API code that are more like security holes than features. Other sites should never be able to delete GR user content. The fact that it may have somehow happened indicates that the blame lies with Goodreads, and they're trying to use Booklikes as a scapegoat.

My husband also ran this past his colleagues, who agreed that there's only one way to handle this:

Run. Pack up your shit and get the hell out of dodge, because Goodreads is not a site you can trust. Their API code is a mess and they're trying to blame it on someone else so they don't have to take responsibility for exposing their user base to potential security breaches. The best thing you can do for yourself is jump ship.

I'm appalled at Goodreads' behavior. Their lack of professionalism and unwillingness to take responsibility for their mistakes is horrifying. They're a shit snowball rolling down a hill and with each new fuck up, the mess gets uglier and uglier. Find a place that respects you as a user, a place that doesn't try to censor you and doesn't think you're an idiot who can't see through their bullshit. That place is not Goodreads.

When Blood Calls - J.K. Beck

This wasn't a complete waste of my time because the plot was pretty good with many supernatural creatures and a hot hero with an interesting past.I didn't like the heroine. She finds out that all kinds of supernatural creatures really do exist and she's all

and then she's excited that she is going to be antagonizing creatures stronger than her prosecuting them.

How thrilling!

-__-

She was also a self righteous hypocrite who looked down upon a poor girl who had the misfortune to be a vampire's victim.

Also, please go for some other PNR if you are looking for steamy sex because the sex in this book is not very good.

"...if she didn't cling to him her body would explode..."
"She exploded.Shattered."

I had high expectations!I thought  their "explosive night of ecstasy" would be...you know..interesting.Half naked hottie on the cover made me read this,

I never learn.

Beautiful Monster - Bella Forrest

Ain't that the truth.

This part may spoil things for you.Someone in this book gets mad at someone else for keeping a secret which is understandable but the secret is such a...predictable crazy shit that you can't just blab it to someone.Like how do you just go "I know this is neither here nor there, but I...uh...I turn into this horror movie creature at night. Not that I'd ever hurt you, my love."

Plus points:

*Amy is a caring person most of the time.At other times she is very insensitive  and she focuses on her dreams. She realizes that she doesn't need Liam all the time to have a happy life.

*Liam gives Amy unconditional love and support.

This story didn't do much for me.At one point Amy says something like "this wasn't how relationships were supposed to be" didn't she make it clear that their relationship was over?I got this for free on Amazon and if its still free you could give it a try to see if you like it.

The Backbenchers: The Missed Call! - Sidharth

This YA book focuses on the friendship between two very different girls. It shows how much the love and concern of a friend can mean to a person.I think I love this book so much because my beautiful, hilarious bestie filled my life with love and laughter. The only complaint I have about this book is that the writing is too simple.

A Girl Like Me - Swati Kaushal

Lets take a look at the blurb:

A Girl Like Me is an unforgettable story, crackling at every turn with the heartbreak and promise—and the breathless exuberance—of teenage life.

Let me enlighten you as to what exuberance means

joyful enthusiasm.

I hate this book.Theres nothing breathlessly joyfully enthusiastic about it!

Ani is like this all the time

The only time  Ani is happy is when this other chick whines like an idiot. And the purple prose...*rubs eyebrow*

At night,if you were alone,it[time] would run amok.It would fling out its arms and turn cartwheels on the snow,it would dance backwards and forwards and round and round and take you spinning along with it.And then, just as suddenly,it would spit you out and leave you cold.

This book drags so much that it is migraine inducing.I kept on reading it because I paid for it so I might as well read it

Emmaline's Bodyguard - Nadene Seiters

Major disappointment.

The h has an exhausted-martyr-I'm-doing-this-to-please-you-even-though-I-don't-want-to -but-I-feel-guilty-for-being-your-freaky-sister kind of a personality. And she tells you repeatedly that the H looks/acts like a predator. The story drags slowly and doesn't have one interesting character or moment.

THE AWAKENING (The Marriage Diaries, Volume 1) - Erika Wilde

This book is hot and has a good backstory and its free on Amazon.

His hot mouth devoured. His wicked tongue pillaged.Roughly, he shoved his hands through her hair, wrapping the long strands around his fingers, holding her captive as he ravaged her mouth with the same edgy, desperate way he took her body.Deeper and deeper.Harder and faster. Her fingernails dug into his muscled back as he plunged, again and again. Everything about him was hard and strong, all primitive, animalistic, carnal male.
